SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 25, 2006— Magma(R) Design Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq:LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, today announced that Skyworks Solutions, Inc., an industry leader in radio solutions and precision analog semiconductors, utilized Magma's netlist-to-GDSII integrated circuit (IC) design solution for Skyworks' next-generation baseband cellular handset solution with multimedia features including a high-resolution camera interface, MP3 and MPEG. Skyworks used Magma's Blast Plan(TM) Pro prototyping, Blast Fusion(R) physical design, Blast Noise(R) signal integrity, and Blast Yield(TM) design for manufacturability (DFM) software to implement the 2-million-gate wireless design. Magma's high-capacity IC implementation system enabled Skyworks to use a flat methodology. Skyworks also leveraged Magma's advanced timing analysis and optimization engine to close setup and hold violations at all modes and corners while taking into account crosstalk and on-chip-variation (OCV). Blast Yield was used for wire yield-optimization. Techniques employed included wire spreading and via redundancy, which can greatly reduce random and systematic defects. Final results proved that Magma's integrated flow could deliver timing closure faster with a smaller area.

"In the wireless IC market, ensuring manufacturability and minimizing area and turnaround time are critical," said Warren McArthur, design automation manager at Skyworks. "Magma's correct-by-construction design flow delivered excellent results in all of these areas. As a result, Skyworks entered into an agreement to obtain Magma technology for RTL-to-GDSII implementation."

"Skyworks' chips are at the heart of many of today's leading-edge multimedia handsets, cellular base stations and wireless networking platforms," said Kam Kittrell, general manager of Magma's Design Implementation Business Unit. "We're pleased that the company is leveraging our software to accelerate silicon success."

About Magma's RTL-to-GDSII Flow

Magma provides a complete RTL-to-GDSII flow within a single executable. Blast Create and Blast Fusion are the cornerstones of the integrated flow. Blast Create is an RTL-to-placed-gates system that enables logic designers to synthesize, visualize, evaluate and improve the quality of their RTL code, design constraints, testability requirements and floorplan. Blast Create integrates fast, full-featured, high-capacity logic and physical synthesis capabilities, full and incremental static timing analysis, design for test (DFT) analysis and synthesis, and power analysis. Blast Fusion is a physical design solution that includes optimization, place and route, useful skew clock generation, floorplanning and power planning, RC extraction and a single, built-in incremental timing analyzer. Based on Magma's unified data model, Blast Fusion accurately predicts final timing prior to detailed placement, eliminates timing closure iterations and accelerates time-to-market for large, complex deep-submicron designs.
